Lexmark inc.
Lexmark was founded in 1991 as a spin-off of IBM's printer-manufacturing division. Lexmark became publicly held and traded in 1995. The U.S based corporation specializes in printers and printer accessories. Lexmark was one of the first companies to release wifi inkjet printers for home use.
Lexmark also does third party development of printers for other major companies, such as Dell. Dell inkjet printers are in fact rebranded Lexmark's.
Lexmark and the law
Lexmark has faught hard against use of recycled and compatible cartridges. 'Illegal' competition eats in to the corporations profits especially since the Lexmark ink cartridges are among the most expensive (often more expensive than the printer itself).
In the United States certain customers now can face lawsuits if they breach the agreements to use the ink cartridge only once.
In June 07' a jury in Kentucky (U.S.A) dismissed Lexmark's patents claims against one of the world's largest manufacturer of parts and supplies supporting the laser toner remanufacturing industry (SCC).
