HP began its Inkjet research in 1978. Their aim was to come up with a high quality personal printer better than the by the time mostly used matrix printer. The result presented in 1984 was named - the Think Jet.
The new printer was a technological wonder, offering not only far better printer quality at a lower cost but it was also quiet and portable (by the standard of the time). The technology was named Thermal inkjet. In a thermal inkjet printer, tiny resistors create heat, and this heat vaporizes the ink in the HP ink cartridges to create a bubble.
