Jumping forward some 40 years. Canon, now a big multinational company, realised early the potential of the inkjet technology. They set up a research and development group in the latter half of the 1970s and pretty soon they found them self having invented the bubble jet technology.
Like many other scientific breakthroughs it happened by accident. By mistake a hot soldering iron touched the needle of an ink filled syringe causing it to spray ink from the tip of the needle. It was a eureka moment - heat could be used instead of pressure in the new printers. The new Canon ink cartridges technology was presented in 1981. |
